TONY CAPEWELL

Firstly do not forget the Christmas Dinner Dance to be held at the Isle on 11th December details ore on the Social Notice Board, come along eat, drink & be merry.

SABA Triples Leagues

After no game last week The Saturns faced fixtures Sunday and Monday, a determined display at San Miguel was followed by a somewhat disappointing result at home to La Siesta.

San Miguel Meteors 6 v Emerald Isle Saturns 8

Sandra Burrows, Sally Cordell & Rod Payne. Led this game comfortably throughout, a poor finish saw the shots difference diminish somewhat. Won 20-14

Marilyn Shatwell, Neil Burrows & Ted Eldred. A bad day for us, Ted was taken ill on the green and had to withdraw from the game. Gerald came on to substitute but by then the game was beyond our reach against a triple in very good form. Glad to say Ted was much improved the following day and watched Monday's match. Lost 24-7.

Mary Elliot, Geoff Farrington & Pat Coffey. We were well in this for eight ends. On the ninth end we dropped eight shots and were unable to find an answer to our opponent’s superiority after that. Lost 32-12

Ann Holland, Mo Thomas & Ray Pollock. This really was a great result for us. Going into the last end two down, we held two for a draw, Ray drew a beauty, we were holding game. Russell was unable to save and two points were in the bag. Won 16-15.

Mike Veale, Rita Bennett & Raoul Bennett. Trailed this one for most of the early ends. Drew level on the thirteenth and secured 5 of the remaining ends to win 15-10.

Byron Hart, Phil Brigham & Roy Cordell. Off to a good start, we were pegged back on several occasions but fortunately never dropped behind. We were well pleased to hold on to win 18-14.

Emerald Isle Saturns 4 v La Siesta Apollos 10

Barbara Eldred, Gerald Shatwell & Rod Payne. A very close contest, the lead changing hands several times. We went into the last 4 down. We picked up a three. Lost 17-16.

Joe Elliott, Elizabeth Green & Ray Pollock. We led by ten shots with six to play. A determined come back by our opponents saw our lead reduced to two shots. Won 15-13.

Sally Fielder, Les Bedford & Pat Coffey. Only two down with two to play. A disastrous five shots dropped on the 17th condemned us to another defeat. Lost 17-11

Mike Veale, Rita Bennett & Raoul Bennett. We led comfortably for the first half but as the game progressed we were caught and entered the last end six down. We held the required six to earn a draw. Jean had other ideas; with her last wood she drew shot. Lost 24-17

Marilyn Shatwell, Neil Burrows & Phil Brigham. Not much to say, on the day we were severely outplayed by a team in great form. Lost 28-9.

Byron Hart, Earl Fielder & Roy Cordell. Another close one, we managed to secure a five on the seventeenth to gain two points. Won 17-12

Our 3 ladies in the friendly, Ann Holland, Mary Elliott & Mo Thomas had a romping day out winning handsomely 27-8

The Emerald Isle took on the Quesada Bowls Club in the CBBA Premier 20 2009/2010 knock out competition. The format of singles, pairs, triples and fours played home and away is one of the most prestigious competitions in the winter calendar. As the current champions the Isle were hoping to retain the trophy this year.

The away team, which has been the strength, previously floundered at Quesada. Keith Jones playing the singles started well and led 8-0 at one point against Chip Chapman. Chip gradually pulled back the deficit to eventually win 21-17.

The pairs of June Jones and Len Fisher were behind all the game due to some excellent bowling from skip Derek Sale who played some excellent shots. His wife Veronica, skipping the triples managed to outdo Steve Cantley's trio.

She managed to obtain 2 shots on the last end to beat Sally Cordell, Pat Coffey and Steve by one shot. The fours were another tight game. Malcolm Broughton, Steve Pearson, Roy Cordell and Sam Russell were up against Spanish International John Muldoon. The game was nip and tuck all the way and being 3 down with 3 ends to play it looked all over. A 5 on the 16 end put the Isle 2 in front. They then dropped a single to go into the last end 1 up. With one bowl remaining John Muldoon was 5 down and what a cracking bowl he projected down the rink. He touched the jack to move it between 3 bowls. Two from Quesada but unfortunately for him nearer to the Emerald Isle bowl. The Isle came away with only 2 points and a shot difference of 5. The home squad made amends with a clean sweep to secure the match 10-6. In the singles Colin Lindgren romped into a 16-7 lead after 14 ends but lost the next 8 ends to go 16-17 down thankfully he recovered his composure to win 21-17. A similar sort of game in the pairs with Tom Dalgleish & Mel O'Dell leasding 16-3 after 8 ends finally getting there 19-15. The trips & rinks were no problem winning 24-10 & 26-10 respectively.

Southern League

The Jets visited Country Bowls to play the Ramblers and lost 4-10, this is not the full story however as one rink lost by 1 shot having dropped 6 on end 15, another rink lost by 2 shots, this match could have gone either way. The rinks skipped by Ron Ede & Ian MacKenzie were our successful trios.

The Sapphires entertained Horadada Royals and ended up 3-11 losers. Skip Russ Hudson's rink were 5-17 down after 12 but they then stepped up a gear, didn't quite get into overdrive, lost 15-19. C. Ayling, G. O'Dell & T. Eldred were not quite hunt lost 14-20.

The same could be said for J. Jarvis, R. Rawlins & Mo Thomas 5-6 down after 7 ends then fell away, lost 11-18.

L. Bedford, R. Squires & R. Payne were in a topsy-turvy game, 1-13 down after 4 ends, 17-14 up after 13, drew 19-19.

D. Hudson, P. Brigham & M. O'Dell were the only victors 16-11

M. Elliott, E. Shepherd & A. Morrice were in control 16-12 up after 15 ends, then dropped a 2 & 4 to lose 17-18
