ORBA WARBLERS GOLF SOCIETY 11TH NOVEMBER BONALBA
Contributor / 2009-11-20 10:47:24
How is it when you are told by the golf course that buggies cannot go on the fairways you can never hit your ball any where near the paths, it must be one of the laws of golf. Having said that clearly all the hard work being carried out on the golf course is definitely paying dividends, the greens were back to their best and were they fast? If I heard that statement once during the round I heard it a hundred times some people even got used to the speed by the time they reached the 17th and some didn’t.
Nobody ripped up the golf course and I think that was almost certainly due to the speed of the greens, category one was led home by Tim Earthy scoring 34 off his handicap of 12.3, in second place, Nick Berry with 33 off 17.4 and in third Mike Boyle, 31 off 14.3. The same 34 topped category two and it was Bill Parsons who took the prize, I bet you wished you had played your knock-out today Bill? In second place with 31 off 27.2 was Margaret Hoare over-shadowing husband Chris for a change who maybe felt the strain of his new handicap, third position went to Malcolm Robinson with 28 off 23.2.
The nearest the pin awards went to Paddy Kenmore on the 4th and one of our new members David Cadogan on the 11th, David went on to sink the put earning his first coveted Warbler ball, Steve Robinson and Tim Earthy also earned Warbler balls for two’s. Gordon Holloway put up a birthday prize to celebrate his 73rd birthday and from a random draw from the score cards the winner was Margaret Hoare, congratulations Gordon and many thanks, we also welcomed two more new members this week, John Daniels and Peter Thomson.
Careline Theatre Group are as usual presenting their annual pantomime, this time it is “Beauty and the Beast”, in the past the Warblers have always tried to support these productions they are such good fun, for more information contact Barbara Pollitt.

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Michael Taylors’ wife Stella passed away suddenly on Friday; Stella was a lovely lively person who was always great fun to be with at our social events she will be sorely missed, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Michael and the family.
