TORRY BATTLE IN VAIN
Andy Hermida / 2009-11-08 18:49:03
Torry lost their 6 game unbeaten run with a disappointing performance on Saturday. Without three regular midfielders Michael, Torres, Ramiro & full back Carrasco, it was always going to be a battle especially when the home side took the lead within 5 minutes of the. A cross from the right wing by Floro saw Aurelio miss time his catch and the ball sailed over his head for Romero, who was completely unmarked, to head it in.
The match was uninspiring; it lacked inventiveness by both sides on an artificial pitch which created a surprisingly high bounce. We subsequently saw an up and over game with neither side gaining any advantage. It was almost like being at a Wimbledon tennis game with the spectators heads moving from one side to the other and then back, the only difference being that the ball wast much higher.
The second half brought a change for Torry as Corcoles came on to replace Burgillos but the only effect this had was to produce more high balls looking to find the veteran striker against a 6 foot defender. Aitor took a lot of stick from the opposition and won a number of free kicks but they all produced negative results. Indeed the only spark of invention came from Piquero who performed well under the circumstances taking on defenders, but unfortunately that final ball let him down.
The game was sewn up in the 86th minute when a thunderbolt of a shot from outside the box by Carrillo went through a group of players and into the top left-hand corner.
Torry looked a dejected side devoid of ideas. They were completely uninspiring and appeared to have no real interest and to be honest we were all grateful for the final whistle. It was getting windy and cold and there was nothing on the pitch to warm us up, but these games happen and with the loss of a third of the squad it’s not surprising.
Next week 15th November Torry are at home to Puzol for a 5pm kick-ofF
