BRITON DIES IN TORREVIEJA HIT AND RUN

A 67 year old British man died in Torrevieja hospital yesterday just hours after being hit by a vehicle while walking along a pavement along Avenida Francisco Casanovas.
The impact was so violent that the man was embedded between the car and the brick wall of a house.
An eyewitness told the Leader that driver of the vehicle ran over toward the pedestrian, took a brief look at his condition and then ran off. Both the Policia Local and the Guardia Civil continue to search for the driver who at this stage has still not been found.
The accident happened just after 10.30 am when a vevicle was traveling down Calle Patricio Zammit. It is understood that the driver ignored a stop sign before colliding with a second vehicle. The collision caused the vehicle to career across the road before trapping the pedestrian against the side of a house by the College Cuba.
The Coordination Center for Information and Emergencies(CICU) received the warning call at 10:37 pm and immediately dispatched a conventional ambulance to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately it is understood that the ambulance was not fitted with the equipment necessary to provide the treatment required by the injured pedestrian and he was immediately moved to Torrevieja hospital.
On arrival the Trauma Team attempted to stabilise his condition but the left leg was badly damaged requiring amputation. In addition it is understood there were severe injuries to the patients pelvis and left hip. The patient died during surgery at 6pm on Tuesday afternoon.
The force of the accident created a large hole in the bottom floor wall of the house. Many residents in the area witnessed the incident and were shocked by what they saw. Two had to be treated at the scene for shock.
