EL CID BOWLS CLUB - 23/10/2009

All El Cid’s Northern League teams played last week, with some mixed results. Firstly, the Scimitars played at home against BBC Tigers, and had some mixed fortunes.
Well done to the winning rinks skipped by Derek Shaw and Frank Straughan, with these two winning rinks and the overall shot difference (of just 2 shots) Scimitars won the game with 6 points to the Tigers 4 points.
A few miles down the road, the Sabres played their rescheduled game away against BBC Lions. Howard Lumby’s rink looked like they might get 2 points, but were just pipped on the last end. Unfortunately the change of green was too much for the Sabres (well that’s what we’re putting it down to) and they left BBC with heads bowed and no points. Congratulations to the Lions on your 10 point win.
Later on last week the Swords played at home to BBC Lions and were marginally more successful against these opponents than the Sabres. It was a close call on Clive Scott’s rink, just missing out on a win by two shots, but well done to the one winning rink, skipped by Len Pilling giving Swords 2 points to Lions 8 points.
In the Winter League last week, El Cid travelled down to Quesada for our second game of the season. After the threat of rain early on the weather was glorious for the rest of the day which made for some good bowling. We finished the day with two winning rinks, John Cruttenden’s rink with John Price, Brenda Price and Joyce Tebbenham scoring a decisive victory 23 – 9, the other rink skipped by Adrian Lambert with Ken Tebbenham, Monica Stansmore and Ros Dingle had a real battle and the result was only decided on the last end with a 16 -14 result. So it was 4 points to El Cid, 6 points to Quesada who won the overall by just 7 shots.
Bad luck to Mavis Dugdale and her team who were up against an in form John Muldoon and his rink and also to John Rawling’s and his team who looked on the 16th end that they may get a result but it wasn’t to be. The two Berleen rinks had mixed fortunes with one winning rink but lost the overall by 5 shots.
