Famous British writer Chris Stewart, who wrote Driving Over Lemons, and lives in the beautiful Alpujaras mountains near Granada, is about to set out on the trail of El Cid, who was Spain’s version of Robin Hood.
Stewart will be joined by fellow Brit and writer Michael Jacobs, who is also an art historian, and has been living in the Jaén village of Frailes for the last decade.
El Cid was born in Burgos in 1040. He was a Castilian nobleman, a military leader and diplomat, who, after being exiled went on to conquer and govern the city of Valencia.
The idea of following in the footsteps of El Cid came from Michael, after he discovered the route last July, when he presented another Brit, Rory Stewart, with the second edition of the Camino del Cid Literary Award.
The two friends will be walking through the provinces of Burgos, Soria and Guadalajara, towards Valencia, passing through some beautiful Spanish towns, full of historical buildings, castles and myths.
