Dear Ed,
With regards to your article in the Leader, "Spain's Eternal Lure", we have been living in Torrevieja for 5 years now and still find it a superb place in which to live.
When we first came, we decided not to come via Masa or any of the other big companies. We employed a local estate agent, Luxor Properties, who could not do enough to help us find the right property, they handled everything for us and made the purchase of our apartment pain free. They were also very informaive about other things that we needed to do. We would recommend an independant agent in preference to the multinationals every time.
Having done everything correctly, we have had no problems with Health Care and find the service provided second to none. We have been treated courteously by everyone we have had contact with.
Yes the exchange rate has made a great difference to our income, but we are still comfortable, warm and happy. We would not like to have to return to live in the U.K.
We have made several really good friends here.
If you make the effort to adapt to the Spanish way of life, then you should have no complaints.
We have always found the locals to be most helpful and friendly.
