ALICANTE MOTHER DONATES LIVER TO DAUGHTER

An eight month old baby girl with liver cancer is to return home soon to Alicante after a transplant operation where surgeons used part of the mother’s liver to save the child’s life.
Surgeons in the Hospital La Fe in Valencia removed a quarter segment of María José Jordá’s liver and grafted it into her daughter in the first live donor liver transplant which has taken place in the Valencia region.
The mother, whose liver will grow back to full size, has already been discharged from hospital after the surgery on 3rd June, and her daughter could be back home within a week. It took a team of 18 to perform the 10-hour operation, EFE reports.
