Last Sunday night was indeed a spectacular night on the Costa Blanca as the whole of the community turned up for The Avril Flanagan remembrance night at Diablo’s on the Cabo Roig strip.
Even the people that couldn’t make it on the night bought a ticket or two to support the event. All monies raised have gone to the trust fund set up in Avril’s name to help with the costs of sending her home to Ireland.
There’s not a bad word can be said about the event itself which was an amazing success. A lot of people individually also raised big amounts, including top man Jack Gillespie who bravely agreed to get his chest waxed by the gorgeous Emiline & by doing so managed to raise an outstanding €1,700 alone. The night was a galaxy of stars with top local singers, comedians, & live bands performing to the packed out venue.
Many thanks have to go to the proprietor Chris for allowing the night to be held in what is possibly the largest venue in the area & laying on the champagne & buffet. Stevie Spit took full charge of the entertainment which went without a hick-up. Sound & light engineers were laid on ever so professionally, while an almost perfect rendition of Riverdance was performed by the jolly crowd as local singer/songwriter Phil Trainor belted out the tunes on his guitar & bodhrán.
A lot of appreciation must also go to Greg & Jane Daly who along with Stevie Spit have been running around non stop for the last few weeks making sure everything would be perfect for the night. Such an amount has not been raised for 1 event in a long time with the total amounting to over €15,500 & with more events organized over the next few weeks that total is sure to rise.
Vowing to never perform “The Angel” again, The Kites changed their minds & for one night only gave an emotional rendition of the song that is currently flying high in the Irish download charts. It was nice to see the community come together as one for the night & I’m sure many new friendships have also been made.
Well done to each & everyone involved & the turn out just goes to show just how much one special beautiful young woman touched the hearts of a small ex pat community here in Spain.
