HOPES OF AGREEMENT OVER CULTURE AND LANGUAGE

The meeting next Wednesday between Francisco Camps, the President of the Valencian Community and Jose Montilla, the President of Catalunia, has raised hopes that some sort of agreement could be reached, not merely over language, but also over questions of culture and finance.
For the Catalans, the meeting has a special relevance as the Mediterranean rail link is on the agenda and the governments of both autonomies - one Conservative, the other Socialist - are expected to forge an agreement over the importance of the rail link and present this to Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
