Torrevieja is about to enter into a contract in which a number of buildings and areas in the town will be evaluated for seismic risk.

It is intended that the study will identify those buildings where work is necessary in order to reduce the impact of earthquakes on public safety through improvement of the built- environment, so as to resist earthquake effects such as ground shaking.

The initiative is being promoted by the CEO of the local police, Javier Minguez, who is seeking to provide a hazard and risk assessment of the vulnerability to seismic risk in areas such as Acequión and Las Torretas.

Minguez said that his staff needs up to date analysis so as to provide them to develop an awareness strategy in a town that has one of the largest seismic risks in the country.
