Following the announcement by Ryanair that up to 50 flights are to be cancelled daily during the next six weeks, some 285.000 passengers have been left fuming and are asking what compensation they might be entitled to as a result of the inconvenience caused by the airline.

Ryanair may be affected by EU regulations concerning rules for cancelled flights. These include:

  • Passengers are may insist on assistance and compensation if the disruption was within the control of an airline
  • Airlines must offer full refunds, paid within seven days, or rebookings for all flights cancelled at short notice; passengers may also be able.to claim additional compensation
  • Cancellation amounts are €250 (£218) for short-haul flights, £440 (£384) for medium-haul flights and €600 (£523) for long-haul flights
  • Passengers who reach their destination more than three hours late can be compensated from €200 to €600 depending on the length of their flights and the delay
