Brian and Sally win the Pairs Betterball Competition

Winners - 14th August 2017

On Friday 11th August Montgo Golf Society played a pairs betterball stableford completion at Oliva Nova, kindly sponsored by John and Susie Snelling. Thankfully the mega-hot temperatures of the previous weeks have subsided slightly making for more pleasant playing conditions, and with Oliva Nova managing to resolve their water supply issues the fairways are returning to their former glory.

This is one of our most eagerly awaiting competitions of the year, mostly due to John and Susie’s generous prize table which includes a good supply of John’s homemade Cornish pasties. Wait a minute though, can we call them Cornish pasties if they were made in their kitchen in Denia? Never mind, they are delicious anyway, as all of today’s prize winners can testify.

At the end of the day the result was very close, with just five points separating the top ten pairs. In first place were Sally Cottrell and Brian Barden with 42 points, closely followed in second place by Wolfgang Schuster and Keith Cottrell on 40 points. There were then four teams on 39 points. With John and Susie declining their prize a delighted John Feek and Stella Fox were promoted to third place, leaving George Braddick/Peter Twine and Simon Fox/Richard Fox to miss out on the pasties.

There were also five nearest the pins on offer, with Keith Cottrell taking the 3rd, guest Brian Woodhouse the 5th, Celia Cronin the 11th, Tom Atkinson the 16th, and Wolfgang Schuster the 18th. Keith Cottrell made the only two of the day on the 3rd. John and Susie made a card draw for the final two pasties, and after a bit of manipulation these fittingly went to the Fox brothers. Finally Celia Cronin gave two bottles of Cava to celebrate her birthday on the 7th, and these went to the lucky pair who came seventh, Tom Atkinson and guest David Cockayne.

Our next event is on Friday 25th August when we will be playing a stableford competition at Oliva Nova, sponsored by Campbell Lamont Golf. Guests are welcome, subject to availability and a current handicap certificate, and should register by visiting the website at www.montgogolfsociety.net and completing an online booking form.
