A wedding blessing, officiated by the Reverend Colin McCormack from the Anglican Chaplaincy of St. Peter's and St. Paul's, Torrevieja took place last Thursday at the pretty little church on Lago Jardin to celebrate the civil marriage of Brian Proctor and Lesley Holliday, which had taken place on 11 June at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, which over thirty family and friends had attended, including Brian and Lesley's children from their previous marriages.
Brian who is retired, and Lesley, a district nurse, purchased a property in 'Aguas Nuevas', Torrevieja last year and hope in the near future it will become their permanent home.
Last October, we featured an article on Brian and Lesley, as Brian had been taken ill during a two week holiday in Torrevieja and ended up having a quadruple bypass operation in the Alicante University hospital. Having never driven in Spain before and not knowing the area at all, Lesley had suffered a horrific journey to her home after leaving Brian in the Vega Baja hospital, the night before his operation. Waiting up all night, at the end of Lesley's nightmare of a journey that evening was her 'Aguas Nuevas' next door neighbour, Irene. Irene from Manchester attended both the civil marriage in County Durham and the blessing at Lago Jardin.
The bride, dressed in eau de nil and mauve, was escorted into church by the couple's friend, Ron Attfield.
The friendship between Brian, Lesley, Ron and our journalist Jill Attfield started last October when Lesley and Jill were both waiting to visit their respective other halfs in the Intensive Care Unit of the Alicante hospital.
When Lesley and Brian arrived in Spain for their holiday and the wedding blessing two weeks ago, the guest list was extremely small, as they only knew three people, Irene, Ron and Jill, but after being invited to a barbecue locally and making more friends they were joined in church and for a reception by quite a few new found friends. The food for the reception had kindly been arranged by neighbours Sue and Brian, as a wedding present for the happy couple.
Brian and Lesley would like to thank Reverend McCormack, Chaplaincy warden Annette Beagrie and all their new found friends for making it such a special day for them both.
