The Quara group played host to the San Miguel Golf Society as nearly 30 members and guests tackled their flagship course at Villamartin.
We found the course relatively busy due to the fact that their September maintenance schedule was already affecting the other 2 courses in the group with Villamartin’s turn not coming until a week or so later.
Having waved adios to the intense August heat, we all enjoyed a very warm, but more refreshing, September day.
The greens were extremely receptive but just a bit slower than we’ve become accustomed to at this popular venue.
It was good to see two smiling Irish faces back with us after about a ten month absence although their immense golfing skills didn’t rise to the challenge on the day…..they’re both very welcome none the less.
Our thanks go to one of our members, Gordon Wilson, for sponsoring some of today’s prizes although only 2 of the NTP’s were claimed.Les Wilton and Steve Fleet being the only two guys who were on target.
Steve’s tremendous tee shot on the 17th deserves a special mention as the pin, obviously positioned by an out and out sadist, was no more than about ten feet from the back right hand corner of the green. It took an extra special shot to find that high shelf at the back of this treacherous green.
Best visitor of the day with a very commendable 32 points was David Eccles from Southport.
Winners in the silver division were Norman Padmore (Again!) with 35 points and a count-back on their 34 totals was needed to separate brand new member, Mark Busson, in 2nd place with Steve Davis in 3rd.
With slightly lower scores the gold rewards went to John Osborne with 33 points, Phil de Lacy (32) and Ken Flaherty (31).
Good luck to long-time member, Mike Jordan, as he flies off back to Burma on another lengthy stint of aid work…..the long flight must have been on his mind as he uncharacteristically came in with a pretty miserable points tally to claim this week’s “Abacus” award.
Next meetings are at Lo Romero, La Torre and La Finca. Barry on 966 731 033 can give you full details or visit www.smgs.org Visitors are more than welcome to join us, just give us a call.
