Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 265 for 5 beat Redbourn C C 173 for 9
The first Eleven faced new tourists in Spain, Redbourn Cricket Club and chose to bat first, Pennick and Munoz opened against a fairly rapid attack from Thatcher and Bazel, the crowd soon got going as runs came from both ends at a steady 6 an over, at drinks (20 overs)120 runs were on the board Munoz slightly ahead, funny how a glass of orange changes things, Pennick went in the 21st over LBW for 36. Crompton looked busy at the crease and hit a quick 23 before missing one and getting bowled.
Fletcher in at 4 missed a looping ball from Lloyd, bowled for 8, thanks to Munoz the score was still rising at a steady rate, Laundon joined in the fun and hit a quick 33 before a tempting leg side ball from the Redbourne JP, Lloyd got him caught on the boundary. Morgan then helped Munoz reach his 100 before attacking the now weary bowlers. The score reached 260 before Munoz missed one and was bowled, 116 well taken runs from our Spanish international. Morgan finished on 20 and Brown 2, 265 for 5.
Redbourne got off to a flyer, 30 coming up in 3 overs, Yoarth hitting the ball to all corners before Sunderland got one by his bat, out bowled. Rowe in at 3 went first ball from Laundon well caught by Fletcher in the slips. These two wickets bringing a bit of calm back to the game, 39 for 2 from 5 looked far better than 39 for 0 a few minutes earlier. Crompton replaced Sunderland and nabbed 2 wickets in his first over, with Fell also nipping one out in his first the game was fairly well back in SACC control. 65 for 5 from 13.
Crompton looked magic as he mesmerized the batsmen with his leggies, unlucky not to take another wicket but ending with 2 for 12 from 8, Fell was also in great form as he managed to grab 2 more wickets in his excellent 8 over spell finishing with 3 for 26. Waqar proofed again what a good asset he is bowling 8 overs for 28 and bowling the well set Basill for 41. Fletcher again looking good his 5 overs troubled the batsmen without removing them, 16 for 0.
Bodnerac a junior SACC player finished off the day's wicket taking with a stumping, Thatcher(20) giving the young man his first senior wicket. Lloyd and Benfield saw off the last few balls to finish the Redbourne day with 173 for 9 wickets.
As always a quick presentation was made to our guests, with Redbourne Skipper Geoff Tooksby responding with a very complimentary speech.
With over 400 runs and 14 wickets falling it is always a great day down at the Woodbridge Oval, our spectators always have good entertainment, food and drink are available and all are welcomed. Next week local rivals La Manga Cricket Club visit in a pre-league season match.
