Celebrations for the Patron Saints Fiesta in San Fulgencio continue this week after they began on Sunday with dawn rockets being fired in to the air.
Today, (Monday 17th) there is a Holy Mass at 9am to honour the Saint Antonio Abad with the traditional handing out of sweet biscuits to the public. This is followed by a parade if the Musical Union Orchestra through the streets of San Fulgencio.
At midday there is a solemn mass and then the traditional blessing of the animals which takes places across many town halls in the region. Take along your pet to receive a blessing from the Parish Priest.
This is an annual spectacle not to be missed as hundreds of pet owners congregate with their pets outside the church for this very special event followed by the age old tradition of the slaughter of the pigs (although these days ceramic pigs are used.) The day’s celebrations will culminate in a fireworks display at 8pm.
On Friday 21st January there is a Holy Mass for the deceased at 7.30pm.
On Saturday 22nd January at El Oasis Natural Park the Town Hall presents the annual ‘Brotherhood Lunch’ as in previous years to promote integrations of all nationalities. Food is provided to all those groups that has registered at the Town Hall (do so now to avoid disappointment). The traditional BBQ marks the conclusion of the fiesta in honour of the patron saint.
