SAN MIGUEL GOLF SOCIETY at LA FINCA 29th DEC
Contributor / 2011-01-01 10:17:23
Our busy annual calendar usually gives us all a week off between Christmas and New Year due to only a handful or so wishing to play. That “handful” numbered twenty this year so a hurried get-together was organised at La Finca.
The marshal informed us that over 120 players were booked in to play the course that day so we weren’t alone in wanting to blow off some cobwebs. Fifteen degrees with sunshine was the forecast but it ended up a real “brass monkey” day with a par round being unattainable once again!
The low temperature and the odd icy blast prompted quite a few comments regarding the lack of protection offered by the buggies from the elements. On further investigation we didn’t find a single one that had a windshield in place…..it does beg the question, why?
An interesting large hole has appeared alongside the 13th green which tells me they’re either having sprinkler problems or hopefully it could be a prototype for a new size of hole they’re thinking of trying out. It would be a much easier game with a 4 ft diameter hole rather than a 4 inch one!!
NTP’s were awarded to J. Dean (3), L. Knock (6), N. Goude (13) & B:Roehrig (16). M. Jones came home with a very healthy 33 points which was sufficient to pick up the guest prize.
In ascending order the main Stableford comp’ winners in just the one division were: K. Stevenson (32), S. Cunningham (32 C/B), J. Dean (33) & L. Knock (34). Thanks to everyone involved in the hasty arrangements and to all at La Finca who we will see once again this Sunday for our “fun day” to welcome in 2011.
January’s Wednesday meetings kick off with a Stableford at Villamartin where we are off tee 1, followed by a medal at Lo Romero and then another Stableford at Alicante Golf. It just remains for me to wish one and all a very healthy and happy 2011 with the hope that it may also be a little more prosperous than 2010.
Anyone is more than welcome to join us for a game any Wednesday whether you wish to become a member or not. We’re a friendly bunch so even if you’re just here on holiday and you want to squeeze a game in, give us a call and we’ll do our best to oblige. More society info is available by emailing info@smgs.org, visiting www.smgs.org or calling the match sec. on 966719604.
