Tourists continue to choose Mijas to enjoy their summer holiday where their arrival seems not to have been affected by the economic. Figures released last week show that during the first half of July the number of visitors using the municipality’s tourist information centre has held steady at about 5,500
By nationality Spanish tourists represent 34 % of all visits. For some years now they have outnumbered all other nationalities arriving in the town. This figure has increased over the past year which demonstrates that the Spanish still regard the area as being able to offer all round value for their holiday expenditure . British visitors are only just behind the home nation and currently account for 32% of visitors.
The trends change over the years as does the nationality of the tourists. During this year the number of Scandinavians has almost doubled. There has also been an increase in the number of Italians visiting the town while number of German, French and Dutch visitors has remained constant.
Tourists generally ask for information on local landmarks, restaurants and shops and all request a map of Mijas. They also take advantage by visiting the surrounding area taking with them maps of surrounding towns, Fuengirola, Benalmadena and Malaga.
A large number of tourists come back to the town on other occasions, attracted by the peace, tranquillity and cleanliness of the area.
