Contributor / 2010-07-31 13:47:25
As part of the ´Festival of Youth’ month in Pilar de la Horadada, a five-a-side football tournament has been running during the month of July.
Teams from all over the region, as well as local sides have been battling it out to reach the finals of the Infantile and Cadettes.
One of the teams in the Infantile section was FC Real Cracks, captained by Jake Burnip, made up of players from the Sheffield United (SUFC Spain) academy based at Torrevieja, along with a guest player, Carlos Perez, from Real Murcia Infantile.
The tournament started on the 5th July for the SUFC players with a tough game against ´The Kings´.
Having no recognised goalkeeper available for that particular game did not prove to be any impediment to their performance, emergency goalie Jack Roulston turned in a brave performance and the team dominated the play emerging as worthy 13 -7 winners.
Further victories followed against Horadada, Aston Birra, Frayton, Real Sociedad and Los Buaperas. On each occasion the team turned in quality performances, often, outplay the opposition and win convincingly.
Each of the team played their part, Regular goalie Dan Carpenter displaying courage and shot stopping ability, Carlos Perez showing cool control, Sam Riley and Jack Roulston steadfast in defence, Jake Burnip exhibiting skill and athleticism, Jose Perez showing speed and setting up many of the goals and Alberto Ello scoring of over 30 goals, yet again proving his skill in the attack.
The semi final against Horadada proved an anti climax, the home side failing to turn up for the fixture, FC Real Cracks were awarded the game in their absence.
The final, against Aston Birra, started as a tense affair, with chances at either end but both sides being thwarted by some superb goalkeeping. The initial breakthrough came for Real Cracks when Carlos Perez loosed an unstoppable shot to beat the keeper. The second half proved to be more open with further goals following for Real Cracks from Alberto Ello (2), Jose Perez (2) and Sam Riley. Real Cracks proving to be worthy winners and champions by a 6-1 margin.
To add to the overall trophy Dan Carpenter received the award for the best Infantile goalie of the tournament and Alberto Ello was awarded the medal for the highest goal scorer with 33 goals.
Sheffield United FC Spain train at Torrevieja twice a week with league games at weekends during the season.
Training starts in September. Anyone interested in joining the Cadettes (age 14 to 16) team should contact Dave Riley on 607 729 256
