DUTCH DELIGHTS AND TASTY TREATS AT APPIE HEIN

After 11 years in Spain working his entrepreneurial magic by buying up run down restaurants and bars, turning them around and selling them on, it was time for Peter and his wife Petra to settle down and find a day job. That day job meant the creation of Appie Hein. Finding a niche in the market for Dutch and German fresh breads and cakes, Peter used his culinary and baking skills and opened Appie Hein in September 2009 in the Bahia de las Dunas centre in La Marina.

Full of Dutch delights and tasty treats, it is a real hidden gem and offers so much more than breads and cakes and now welcomes an international clientele with customers enjoying a full menu of everything from soft rolls with ham and cheeses, egg dishes and omelettes and salads to main meals like chicken cream with mushrooms, goulash, king prawns, steaks and even frog legs. You can even sample some Dutch style tapas. Whatever your taste your choice can be catered for and prices start at just 3.85€.
Everything is produced daily on site with Peter starting work at 4am to bake the range of breads loved by his customers. His wife then takes over front of house when the cafe opens and remains open until 9pm or until the last customer leaves!
As much as the couple are dedicated to the business, they are also committed to developing and improving their surroundings and have worked hard to draw the local community of businesses together. At Christmas they organised a 3-day market which will be bigger and better this year, and just last month they held a one-day market in the streets of the commercial centre which attracted over 1200 visitors. This summer they intend on organising weekly BBQ nights for the balmy warm evenings and exciting plans to expand the business are already in place so watch this space!

Appie Hein is open Mon-Sat from 8am and from 10am on a Sunday. They are situated on the ground floor of the Bahia de las Dunas centre, just off the N-332 at La Marina behind Mercadona, near Iceland and Lidl. There is ample car parking and is a safe and family friendly commercial centre.
