SUMMER IS COMING

Summer is approaching, slowly but surely. We’ve had a week of glorious sunshine that have been dearly missed through the bitter winter months. Of course, being April you can never predict the weather but this got me thinking...
April and May should be the time when you break into your summer wardrobe, and there is nothing more distressing then realising that your clothes don't fit as well as they did the last summer. Of course, there are easy and (mostly) painless ways to correct this travesty of the winter months...
Eating Well
This means no hangover cure junk food especially with Easter now behind us! Eat three meals a day, you don’t need to starve yourself. If you stop eating all together, your body will realise what you are doing and ironically, it will set itself up for a 'mini-hibernation' - any food after that will be absorbed all too easily. Not a good way to tackle this problem at all. You just need to be sensible and healthy. A small breakfast of cereal or toast, a small lunch of maybe some soup and fruit and a fair sized evening meal. You’ve read books about “calorie counters” but it just doesn’t have to be this way, as long as you aren’t eating junk food constantly throughout the day they you will probably be fine. Replace your junk food with some peaches or grapes or apples. Perhaps make a fruit salad?
Drink lots of water
Water naturally cleanses your body of toxins which helps keep you not only well and hydrated but also lose weight. Water makes up about 60-70% of the human body. Health Organisations suggest that everyone should drink 1.8 litres of water a day to keep the body healthy. If the kidneys are water deprived then your liver is doing all the work - fat cannot metabolise as quickly as when the kidneys are actually helping out. If you drink the recommended 1.8 litres then your body, in essence, will work better as your muscle would not be suffering from dehydration when you exercise. Not only does water help your health but it also washes the toxins out of your skin. So 8 glasses of water a day and you will be set!
Exercising
During the winter months, everybody slacks when it comes to exercising. The weather is cold and miserable, it’s never fun to run in the snow and rain. When things start to look up, it’s still hard to feel any motivation. Start by running for 20 minutes to half an hour to get your heart rate up and your blood pumping. The first two days are always the hardest but soon it’ll become easier. I find that it’s always good to take your mp3 or ipod out with you and turn it up to full volume. If running isn’t your forte, then perhaps you could join a health club or better yet, if you have a Wii – buy Wii Fit. It’s a lot more exciting then it looks.
So there you have it. Three easy steps to follow to for a healthy body for summer. You don’t have to do anything particularly special: Eat sensibly, drink lot of water, set a goal and do a little bit of exercise a day.
