FANTASTIC RESULTS FOR THE TORREVIEJA SWIMMING TEAM

This weekend saw the older members of the Torrevieja Swimming Club compete in the 4th Regional Control in the Municipal Pool Petrer. On both Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th the squad achieved outstanding results against 267 swimmers from 13 regional clubs.
Louise Brassington set a new time in the 800m freestyle of 12:31:90, beating her previous 400m time by 3 seconds and knocking a massive 10 seconds off her previous 200m time. Sister Ruth Brassington continued in the same way with a 400m time of 5:29:75 and then knocked 5 seconds off her 200m freestyle time placing her 2nd in the girls’ 1997 category.
Colleague Edurne Moreno improved her 200m freestyle time by 4 seconds, 2:47:94 and retaining a similar time in the 100m and having a good swim in the 200m breaststroke. Yovanna Arguelles gained 2nd place in the girls 1995, 50m and 100m freestyle and 4th in the 200m. To round off the fantastic results by the girls Emma Cagigao had three outstanding races in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 200m medley. Emma won 1st position in both backstroke events reducing her times by 2 seconds in the 100m, 1:10:72 and by 6 seconds in the 200m backstroke giving a new personal best of 2:31:26. In the 200m medley Emma came second with a new best of 2:39:72 improving by 4 seconds.
The boys matched the girls’ outstanding results with Joel Tereba breaking the 1 minute mark for the 100m freestyle with a new best of 58:87 placing him 1st in the 1997 age group. Colleague Yuriy Lymar followed with a new time 1:01:02. Joel then swam the 1500m freestyle for the first time with a time of 19:17:11 and on Sunday knocked 6 seconds off his 200m freestyle event with a new time of 2:10:58. Yuriy Lymar matched this with 4 seconds off his 200m event with a new time of 2:18:45 and a good swim in the 50m event.
To round off the weekend achievement Adam Stewart had an outstanding swim in his 200m butterfly event knocking a massive 18 seconds off his previous best with a time of 4:06:64. This gives Adam the qualifying time he needs to compete in the Downs Syndrome World Championships. Well done to all the swimmers and a fitting reward for all the hard work put in by everyone and by the coach Juanma Martinez.
The Torrevieja swimming club is always looking to invite new members. The club meets each evening, in three sessions, Monday to Friday between 5.30pm and 9pm. The club trains in the 50m pool at the Palacio de Deportes Infanta Cristina, Torrevieja.
