GETTING IT OFF FOR CHARITY

There’s nothing quite like seeing a grown man squirm in pain and that’s exactly what locals of one bar in Urbanisation La Marina saw when they turned up to support resident Carl’s sponsored chest wax.
It’s not the first time Carl has got it all off for charity, several years ago his hair-removal efforts raised thousands of euros in support of Leah Webb; a young girl suffering from cancer, and on Saturday night at Cagney’s bar, he bared all once again to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity close to his heart. “I’m ex-army and was injured during my time in the forces and got nothing.
Ok, so I was only injured but girls and boys are out there getting killed and losing limbs so it’s really important we try and help and all money raised will go straight back to the charity in the UK.”
In the capable hands of Jan from ‘Beauty at The Barber’s Shop’ each hair was waxed off Carl’s chest strip by painful strip, with the watching spectators able to join in the fun by grabbing a strip for a one-euro donation. Some 20minutes later, the endurance was over and his chest was once again baby smooth.
The sponsored chest wax raised 150€, along with 314€ from a tombola and auction and over 140€ from collections at the bar. With change being counted and generous donations from neighbouring bar La Bodega, the final total raised reached 850€.
The fun-filled evening was the first such charity event since new owners Kate Isaac and Ricky Patton took over Cagney’s, situated just behind the Deutsche Bank in Urbanisation La Marina. In the six short weeks since they have had the bar they have injected it with a new lease of life.
With more charity nights to come, regular entertainment and appearances from the much-loved Ricky Patton himself, there is a definite vibrancy and certain air of excitement about the place and with theme nights including a Western night and James Bond night already planned, there is something for everyone. “It is a really exciting time for us,” says Kate, “and we would just like to thank Carl for his fundraising efforts and to everyone who turned up on Saturday to support and donate to a worthy cause.”
Cagney’s is situated in 55 Plaza Sierra Castilla, Urb. La Marina, behind the Deutsche Bank.
