Paramount Pictures have chosen the region of Murcia for the construction of the biggest theme park in Spain, which aims to compete directly with Disneyland in Paris.

The project will have the added value of some cinematographic studios which will be the centre of all Paramount’s productions in Europe, according to the Murcian Councillor for Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz.

Cruz has just got back from a trip to Dubai with a letter from the executive president of Paramount, Michael Bartok, who wants to start the ball rolling just as soon as it has been proven to be economically viable.

Cruz has said that the region of Murcia will become the “Leisure Centre of Spain, with a 2.5km² complex with 15,000 beds in hotels, creating 20,000 jobs, and attracting 3 million tourists to Spain. The amount of money to be invested will be decided next month, and private investors will be offered the possibility of putting their capital into the project.

The project is estimated to be completed within 2 years. It comes like a breath of fresh air for Spanish property agents, Spanish real estate companies, and other local businesses in the present financial climate.

Any business would try cover up there objectives for as long as possible. If Paramount came out and said they were building a theme park every farmer with a bit of land in Murcia would be asking double.

I now believe they have the land and it is in the planning process. I firmly beleive this will go ahead and also that Condado de alhama properties will benefit extremely well. ;)

Paramount can deny it, but in this letter of Michael Bartok, Executive Vice President of Paramount, say they are interested.

Paramount have already denied any knowledge of the story twice in the last 10 days.

My my my, just how negative can us brits be. I think this is fantastic to give disney a run for his money, the weather is so much better in Murcia, with the new airport in Corvera, San Javier and Alicante you realise why they positioned it where they have. The properties are going to go through the roof. "Pure speculation" someone wrote, well we will see.

Chris Treacy 25-03-2010 / 09:56

This is only speculation and media propoganda aimed at raising spirits and confidence within the Spanish property market. It will never get off the ground.

Check out the Paramount website and you will see they have no mention of it anywhere.

It is a very much below the belt attempt by Mr Pedro Alberto Cruz to raise his popularity among fellow Murcians. This can only lead me to believe that ther might be a Spanish Election on the horizon??

Spike 23-03-2010 / 17:49

So far only press speculation and guesswork not one bit of fact.

Carol Power 22-03-2010 / 13:35

How much of this is speculation and rumour, and how much is actually confirmed?

I think it comes like a breath of fresh air for all those thousands of unemployed that might finally find a job. We are not all retired and we don't all care about all the ( to many already ) properties for the pocket filling estate agents and property developers.

Terra Mitica in Benidorm has always struggled. we have been going there since it opened . it is a lovely theme park but needs some help and input
to make it more interesting and hopefully profitable,
one would have thought it better to first help to get this attraction on the map and build this up before spending billions of euros on a new project that could end up to be a white elephant.

Interesting photo showing "togetherness"! (Old sub editor writing...). Is there any indication WHERE this development might be. Would be fascinated to see the snagging list if it were completed in two years!
