Six months after signing the paper to give the go-ahead for the last viaduct to be built that will bring the AVE high speed train into Alicante the work is almost completed.
The new 60 million euro bridge measuring almost 400 metres long Alcoraya-Alicante will bring the rail line to within 800 meters of the city and making a high speed link to Madrid a reality sooner rather than later.
When finished the viaduct will stand over 100 metres high and its construction and planning have given city bigwigs a headache. The A& motorway had to be spanned and a 300 metre tunnel built to provide access for farmers.
The line is due to open in 2011 and it will mean passengers can get to the capital, Madrid in less than 3 hours.
