LO CRISPIN GOLF SOCIETY AT LA SERENA
Contributor / 2009-05-17 18:07:06
“Right, check the gear, Golf clubs, hat, wet weather gear. It rained last night, plenty of old balls, snorkel and waders, all correct? So we are off to La Serena Golf.”
This was the drill carried out by members of the society before we travelled off to tackle this challenging course which always catches out those who tend to drift to the right off the tee. The designer of the course just loved a water feature. Some say Barnes Wallis was involved and some of the members proved the ‘Bouncing Bomb’ did work.
Following a night of thunderstorms and quite a lot off rain the course was very fresh although the greens were slower than usual. Much credit must go to the staff of La Serena who are very well organised and the welcome is always genuine.
We played the usual stapleford format and although we are a young society already there is serious competition and the scores are improving. We have developed several new competitions including a Player of the Year with a superb bronze figure of a golfer as first prize.
Four new members joined us taking our number to just over 70. Word of how much our members enjoy the society has spread and many of our new members are from areas outside of the Lo Crispin urbanisation and they are very welcome.
Following the game we all gathered at our home watering hole at the Lo Crispin Tavern. The owner David Ferrandiiz Trujillo has again donated Lo Crispin GS shirts for the new members and we are very grateful for his continued support.
