Due to both our intrepid reporters on UK duty it has been left to me to get my quill out of retirement and give a minimalist report this week for the Emerald Isle Bowls Club Sponsored by 1CAR1 by Roy Pickin.
Sunday - Having lost to Finca Guila in the 20x20 last year we were up for a bit of revenge when known we were drawn against them again, and what an impressive win it was, the away team getting a hundred percent result and the home side not fairing so well but kept their end up to draw 2 - 2 giving us a tremendous win 6 - 2 this puts us in the semi-finals, the Club Captain Brian Duff says well done team for pulling the cat out of the bag and Good luck everyone in the next round.
Monday - The first report in was from the Neptune's Captain Bill Rothwell who was highly delighted with their win away to Quesada Blue Diamonds 10 - 4 with a shot difference 106 - 79. The report in from the Pluto's against San Luis Klingons was also very favourable, reversing the score from when we last played at the beginning of the season Pluto's 9 pts (115) - Klingons 4 pts (99).
Now the results start to go pear shape, the Saturn's lost against Quesada Reds 6 points (100) to Quesada's 8 points(103) they were third in the league and were looking to start challenging the leaders but don't write them off yet.
Tuesday - We had our monthly friendly game against the Highjackers and suffered the embarrassment of a slamming 2 rinks to 6 rinks loss and 122 shots to 144. (See you next month for retribution.)
Wednesday - For me this was the saddest result, playing against our neighbours San Miguel in the Winter League Sponsored by 1CAR1 we only managed to get two points thanks to Steve Cantley's rink who beat Russell Marks rink 27 - 11, Well Done.
The match was closely contested, finishing up only 8 shots adrift. Result 2 - 8 (70) - (78). What happened to the Berlean rinks going down in both rinks shot difference (21) - (40).
On Thursday and Friday Cajamurcia Bank at La Zenia sponsored our internal Rinks Competition for which we thank them and much to the delight of the onlookers the final kept everyone guessing to the very end. It was eventually won by the team skipped by Raoul Bennett 14-10. Always narrowly in front Raoul and co survived a scare when their opponents picked up a 4 on the 9th end but they kept plugging away to win the big money. Runners up were Steve Pearson, Bill Allen, Russ Hudson and Gerald Shatwell while in 3rd place there was Neil Burrows, Sally Fielder, Phil Brigham and Keith Jones. The photo shows the team of Raoul, Liz McCabe, Les Bedford and Sally Cordell. The Cajamurcia staff who were on hand to present the prizes, left to right, are Estefania, Noelia, Thomas, Marien (Branch Manager) and Leticia.
