JULIE'S BLOG - 19TH JULY 2010

I’m always the type of person to be saying...This time last week we were here, or this time tomorrow night we’ll be saying, this time last night we were there, and that’s exactly what I’m saying since I got back from my mini holiday to Barcelona & Benicarlo. I’d give anything to be getting into the car and doing it all over again.
We had such a great time. From walking up and down La Rambla, watching the human statues, riding the underground Metro, visiting the Camp Nou,staying in a mobile home at Camping Alegria del Mar in Benicarlo (my first time ever staying at a camping site) and not forgetting of course, having the pleasure of watching Daniel Evans performing live, all in all, what a time we all had. We were made feel so welcome by the family who have owned and ran the site for over 25 years. It was so relaxed there and you have everything you need without leaving the grounds. Before we started on our journey I printed out all of the directions with the help of Mr. Michelin and his route planner alongside all of his ‘recommended’ picnic areas, and we drove past so many towns on our way up the country. Fingers crossed, I’d love to go there again soon...or anywhere again soon.
What a great experience it was to see Spain winning the World Cup, and I’m delighted, as are you I’d imagine, to be able to say that we were in the country to watch the best team win for their country for the first time. I know of one or two people who actually flew out here at the last minute, just to be able to witness the experience of it all for themselves, one being a favourite Irish singer and musician of mine, Brendan Keeley.
I read this week, that Tesco are now selling the ‘Lasandwich’, which is basically a Lasagne sandwich. It’s had mixed reactions. I always make myself Lasagne sandwiches and sure when there’s Spaghetti Bolognaise, I always put that in toast. They’re scrumdiddilyumptus! I used to eat sugar sandwiches when I was younger...oh and not forgetting hundreds and thousands in bread and butter aswell. Sure we all have our unusual tastes.
There was a story in the paper last week of a dog being left in a car with the windows up in the sweltering heat. The owner forgot all about the chocolate Labrador, but Max took matters into his own hands and used his clever thinking to honk the horn continuously to get attention. Luckily a passer by was alerted to the noise and the dog survived. Thank goodness there’s a happy ending this time, but think of all the dogs that don’t manage to escape the car alive through total fault and stupidity of their owner. Yes, I know it happens accidentally, but it still doesn’t help me understand how anyone can FORGET about the dog in the car.
Even worse, the sadness of it all is that this happens with small children and babies. I just can’t get my head around it at all. xXx
