AIRPORT ASSISTANCE FROM HELP
Staff Reporter / 2010-05-19 14:31:47
This is a report of an incident which shows the wider range of activities carried out by volunteers of our Charity. When that recent Ash Cloud disrupted flights from San Javier airport, a telephone request from the British Consulate in Alicante resulted in one of our volunteers, Eileen, responding.
On arriving at the airport, she was told that no public address announcement could be made. Resolutely, she went up and down the long queues of frustrated passengers over five days. She identified eight people needing medical help and took them to the Salud in Santiago De La Ribera to obtain emergency prescribed medication as they were running short. Our President, Elaine Dale also answered a call from a lady without a Euro Med Card on our emergency telephone number, 63 43 10 605 and was able to get her and her very ill daughter to the Los ARCOS hospital, where she was attended to and kept in overnight.
HELP M.M.M. would very much like to thank Max Kite for his assistance with the translations.
The son-in-law of our Vice President, Terry Joint, offered accommodation in a large house near Murcia City. So far no one has taken up the offer but he is happy for it to be available for a while, since there may well still be more problems with the volcano.
