The Belgium players dominated This mixed triples at the picturesque home of the Peacocks Petanca club. A good turnout was just reward for the hard work put in by the host club. After all teams had played five games it was Christiane, Agnes and Gino from Amigos Belgay in San Luis, who were the unbeaten winners, having pulled of a fine 13-7 victory over French team of Jackie and Paco Lopez, and Jacques Paolacci, who also had been in good form, this put them down into 3rd place, with Vero, Alain, and Guy Fernandez taking the runners up place.
The Peacocks gained 4th place with a good performance by Margaret and Dave Collins, and Barry Tolson, who just edged out another Belgium trio of Nicolle, Hugo and Roland, who took 5th place. A big well done to Izzy and Nancy who did a fine job in organizing this first championship.
LAS SALINAS PETANCA LEAGUE
With so many new teams now seeking membership to the winter league, it now looks likely that two new divisions will be considered. A committee meeting next week should provide more details, with September the cutoff date. When the league was first started in 2009, just 6 teams competed this has grown each year with a possible 48 teams contesting the winter league.
The Ayuntamiento in Torrevieja have helped greatly with this growth creating a number of new play areas, with two new centers at Los Balcones and Altos de Limonar adding 30 new pistes, justifying the financial outlay which will be heavily used by local players from both areas.
