A woman has been seriously injured on Tuesday following an accident on the CV-90 that occurred at about 1.45 am

The vehicle was travelling toward Rojales when it left the road and rolled into an area of thick gorse bushes, before it burst into flames adjacent to the roundabout junction for Los Montesinos. The car ended up more than forty metres from the road.

The driver, who was clearly in difficulty, was helped from the car by a passer-by, shortly after which the car burst into flames.

Local police from Torrevieja, together with the Civil Guard, and Torrevieja Vega Baja-Sur firefighters, all attended the scene, along with an ambulance and medics. The woman was treated at the scene before being moved to the University Hospital of Torrevieja.

The driver is reported as having suffered a broken leg and severe bruising to the chest and abdomen. The car was completely burnt out in an area of the salt marsh just inside the natural park of the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, close to one of the viewpoints.

According to health sources the woman is said currently to be in a serious condition.
