New CD Montesinos boss Ruben Saez Juarez stopped the rot with a surprise victory against high fliers Santa Pola CF.

“The win was for the new manager Ruben – and more so for the fans,” midfielder Macan exclusively told me after the game.

CD Montesinos had not won in their last eight games, ahead of the task of facing Santa Pola, who had chalked up a 5-1 win the previous week.

Los Montesinos, Alicante based outfit CD Montesinos sacked manager Carlos Perez after a run of poor results and lacklustre performances by the Vega Baja outfit.

Ruben, a former player, was made the new coach after an emergency meeting at the club last week.

Nearly 200 fans packed into the Municipal Stadium to watch a team, lacking in confidence, put in an extra ordinary effort to gain a 1-0 win -thanks to a second half goal by Oscar.

“We worked so hard for the victory,” man of the match Macan told me.

The Full Monte supporters took time to get into vociferous mode – up until the final moments of the game – as the reality of an unexpected victory was set to be delivered.

Captain Fernando was expectional against a Santa Pola team, along with Vazquinho who worked hard up front, backed by a solid all round much improved 90 minutes by the CD Montesinos team.

“The fans are fantastic – special – and all the players acknowledge that,” Macan told me.

Despite Montesinos, third bottom, being at the lower echelons of the 1st Regional Group 8 Valencia table, Macan believes the gap is not a true picture.

“The teams are similar, despite the league positions. And we proved that with a fantastic victory”, said Macan.
