CD Montesinos 0 Catral 1

A morning kick off saw only about 200 attending our 3rd home game of the season. CATRAL dominated the first 15 minutes and then LIAM forced their goalkeeper to make an outstanding save from a shot to the top left hand side of the goal.

CATRAL then missed an easy chance before making MICHAEL pull off a great close range save to keep MONTE in the game. With 30 minutes gone the game was evenly poised and from 30 yards VAZ skimmed the cross bar.

A few minutes later MICHAEL then made another excellent almost impossible save, by flying high and parallel to the ground to send the ball over the bar. Both  teams walked off at half-time with honours even.

MONTE started the second half on top and had what looked like a good goal disallowed. After viewing photo’s, these showed no offside, and all defenders and goalie with feet on the ground, when LIAM leapt up to head the ball home??

After 65 minutes MONTE were caught out by a short corner resulting in a CATRAL forward being tripped in the area. CATRAL made no mistake with the penalty and MONTE now faced an uphill struggle.

DARIO, DIMITRY, MACCAN and OMAR made way for MANUEL, DIAGO, MACIA and YERAY as MONTE pressed for an equaliser. However it was CATRAL who hit the woodwork and FERNANDO who had to head off the line.

Overall our distribution was poor, the defence never kept a straight line, apparently intent in just following the ball wherever it went, midfield passing was virtually non-existant, and we created few clear cut chances.

It has to be said, yet again, the referee was appalling. In one incident, a Monte player was fouled on the left wing, the ball was passed to another Monte player, and then to MACCAN, who had a clear run at goal, only for the referee to blow the whistle, to give Monte a free-kick for the original foul, long after the normal advantage rule.

Another strange decision was when MACCAN tripped on the left wing, and was about 4 feet in mid-air, and was kicked in the stomach by a Catral player, a really dangerous play, with no punishment.

Throughout the match Monte Captain FERNANDO, approached the referee for his decisions, which resulted in him being booked.

Our goalkeeper MICHAEL was presented with the MAN OF THE MATCH award by our match sponsor JIM CRIPPS.
