The San Javier International Jazz Festival has removed the Maceo Parker concert, scheduled for Friday, July 13, due to the cancellation of his European tour by the American singer and saxophonist.

Parker has been replaced by the British Soul Singer Zalon, who supported Amy Winehouse for many years and was the vocal director of Amy’s last album.

Zalon started, what has turned out to be a brilliant solo career following the death of the soul diva, which has taken him all over the world earning the singer a deserved position among the elite of contemporary soul.

At Jazz San Javier Zalon will perform with a band of seven musicians and three vocalists performing a selection of the great classics of soul, a tribute to Amy Winehouse, and a third part of Zalon’s own music.

Tickets for the night, which also includes a concert by the trumpeter and singer Keyon Harrold have been reduced from 25 to 20 euros and are on sale online at festivales@sanjavier.es  or by visiting the Festival box office on the ground floor of the San Javier Municipal Hall building.

The festival gets underway on 30 June with concerts by Pepe Bao, reputed to be Spain’s best ever bassist, and Vonda Shepard who achieved worldwide popularity as the resident pianist on the TV show Ally McBeal.

Pat Metheny, winner of 20 Grammy Awards and considered the best jazz guitarist of all time, will perform on 6 July. The festival will close on 28 July with Chick Corea, one of the top piano players of his generation, alongside Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett.
