Daya Nueva 3 v. Formentera 1

Daya started brightly playing some quick neat football forcing their opponents to defend in numbers.  On eleven minutes the usual Daya defensive cock-up let Formentera in with a great chance but somehow the home side scrambled the ball to safety !

This gave the visitors a boost and they became more involved in the match.  On fifteen minutes Daya put together a good move down the right, the superb cross was met by Fernando’s head and the ball grazed the crossbar on its way just over.  On twenty five minutes from a nice Formentera build up a snap shot had Jaime scrambling across his goal but the ball went just wide of his post.

It was now a much more even game but on twenty nine minutes yet another defensive error cost Daya dear as the visitors opened the scoring.  On thirty four minutes Daya were forced to make a change with Rocamora on for Adolfo who had picked up a hamstring injury.

Now it was the visitors turning the screw and it HAD to be Daya scoring the next goal otherwise the game would have been out of their reach.  On forty three minutes a good long ball found Omar but his effort just failed to beat the visitors’ keeper.  So 1-0 at the break but Daya were not out of this game just yet.  Daya began to force the pace as the second half started and had some success going very close from a corner.  On fifty four minutes Daya equalised from a corner kick  when Rocamora turned the ball home from close range, so game on.

It was end to end stuff now with no quarter asked or given.  Daya went ahead on sixty one minutes when Omar fired home through a crowded penalty area following good build up play.  Daya were now on fire and they went searching for a third goal that would surely give them the points.

Braulio was on for Omar on sixty five minutes, so we now expected sparks to fly.  On seventy five minutes Braulio forced a good save from the keeper with one of his trade mark thunder bolt shots.  Minutes later Ruben should have wrapped things up for Daya but his spectacular close range miss had to be seen to be believed !!  On eighty minutes a Braulio/Fernando combination produced the move of the match with a great finish from Fernando making it 3-1 Daya.

The visitors tried to up their game but Daya had their opponents just where they wanted them, dead and buried.  So a well deserved 3-1 victory with their second half display probably the best football they have played for awhile.  Coach, Juan Pedro’s half time talk must have been quite inspirational.  More of the same next week please.  Man of the Match, probably Juan Pedro, for whatever he said in the dressing room at the break.
