A young father, firefighter Alex Green, 26, was found with severe head wounds and a bleed to the brain on a street in a  Magaluf resort. He had a bleed to the brain, as well as fractures to his face, and a collapsed lung.

He travelled to Magaluf with 25 friends on Friday who became concerned when he did not return from the toilets in a bar. They began searching for him before learning that he had been found unconscious in the street. He was rushed to a Majorca hospital in an induced coma and has undergone surgery. He in intensive care surrounded by his family and his fiancée Rebecca Thorpe, who flew to the island to be at his side.

There is no indication as to how the man from Rochdale sustained his injuries but a blood sample did show traces of alcohol which may invalidate his travel insurance.

His friend, Scott Cash, said: “I got a phone call from Alex’s phone, and it was someone else telling me we needed to go to him. When we found him he was unconscious and his face was a mess. He had significant facial injuries. No one has got a clue what has happened to him. From what we can gather there was no CCTV where he was found. The group of us are very shaken. We just want him to get better.”

His friends have set up a fundraising page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ant-unzueta in order to raise the funds to cover his medical expenses which are expected to run into thousands of pounds.
