Vivace Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

Vivace Classical Choir is now well into rehearsals for its forthcoming 10th Anniversary “Celebration Concert”, with an evening of some of the favourite pieces sung by the choir over the years. Two performances of the concert will take place, the first in La Siesta Church on Friday 31st March at 7.30pm, and the second in the Casa de Cultura in San Miguel de Salinas on Saturday 1st April at 8.00pm.

Over the ten years, the choir has sung works from four different centuries, by many composers, from the earliest work ,Vivaldi’s “Gloria” written 1715, to the latest, “The Armed Man” by Karl Jenkins, first performed in the year 2000.

So the choice was extensive, but Musical Director Tom Pargeter has planned a fascinating programme of contrast, with extracts from religious works such as Handel’s “Messiah” and Mozart’s “Requiem”, glorious music from the world of opera with the wonderful Slaves’ Chorus from Verdi’s ”Nabucco”,  adding a little humour to the mix with an item from the Victorian parlour repertoire, and  including the rousing chorus “O Fortuna” from Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”.

There will certainly be something for everyone in the programme!

After over 10 years in charge, Vivace’s Musical Director Tom Pargeter is handing over the baton after these two concerts. Starting with 16 singers in October 2006, Vivace now has some 60 members. Tom has really enjoyed the time, and hopes very much that the choir will continue to go from strength to strength, offering the opportunity for local singers to learn and perform major classical works.

The concert in La Siesta Church will be on Friday 31st March, starting at 7.30pm. Entrance is €6 to be paid on the door. Doors will open at 7.00pm.

From the very beginning, Vivace has been based in San Miguel de Salinas, so it is fitting that the final performance will be in the Casa de Cultura in San Miguel de Salinas on Saturday 1st April, starting at 8.00pm. Doors will open at 7.30pm. Tickets are €5, and can be obtained by telephoning Douglas Brown on 659616356. Tickets can also be got from Bargain Books in San Miguel.

As this is Tom’s last concert as Musical Director, the singers are looking forward to what will be a very special evening.
