ALMORADÍ POLICE REFUSE TO CARRY OUT FIREARMS TRAINING

Local police officers in Almoradí have refused to carry out shooting practice because the chief of police had failed to obtain the relevant authorisation from the Civil Guard’s Arms Firearms Department.

Police sources say that José Antonio Segura, failed to take the steps to obtain the necessary permits that are mandatory when moving weapons to the firing range from the Almoradi Police HQ.

It would appear that a number of agents have also denounced their boss saying that he has apparently failed to obtain the authorisation for at least a decade despite the legal requirement and the need for officers to carry out two firearms practices every year.

They say that in the past they have travelled without the permits but they are no longer prepared to do so.

The police authority had reserved the firing range for the 15th and 22nd of November. However, when officers asked to see the permit, which is required to be submitted 45 days in advance, they were told that it had not been returned.

A spokesman for the officers said that the consequences of them carrying the weapons without authorisation could be extremely serious, particularly had there been any mishap.
