Patients at Torrevieja’s University Hospital wait, on average, just 31 days to undergo surgery compared with 127 days in many other public hospitals in the Valencia region. The data for the third quarter of the year was released by the Regional Minister for Health, Carmen Montón just last Friday.

A spokesman at Torrevieja Salud said that the data reflects the commitment of the organization to maintain the surgical waiting list below 60 days.

Figures provided in the report also show that surgical specialties such as dermatology, gynaecology, ophthalmology and Vascular Surgery had even lower waiting lists in September, with patients having to wait only 16, 19, 20 and 16 days respectively.

It is further noted in the statistics that about 70 percent of all operations are carried out without the need for patients spend the night in the hospital, which is only possible thanks to the application of excellent surgical and anaesthetic techniques, by experienced professionals.
