I see that some companies selling Solar water heating products are saying that government grants are available. 

Take this with a pinch of salt. A couple of years ago I investigated this claim and discovered that the Valencian authorities open a window for grants a couple of months a year, and grants were very restricted only to approved and registered suppliers. Later on because of the recession these grants were stop.

Apparently there were many cases in those days where registered companies applied and was successful in getting grants on behalf of property owners, who by the way are still waiting for the money. The payments were retained by the companies and never passed on to the customers, and it then took s sometime before payments were  made. I know of one such person who is still waiting ten years after his system was fitted for his grant. So beware double check with the town hall before being swindled.
