On Thursday morning, the first park adapted for rehabilitation exercise was inaugurated in Pilar de la Horadada.
The Mayor, José Fidel Ros and the rest of his councillors were there for the ceremony in the 30 de Julio Park.
28,000€ have been invested in the flexible floor surface and nine different devices which allow maintenance and rehabilitation for people with reduced mobility. Those people that wish to use the facilities have specialist monitors available to guide their exercises on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
The equipment has been specially designed for the elderly to work on specific parts of the body according to their needs. For example, the flexo tensor eases the movements of flexing and extending the wrists; the zigzag is for exercising overall movements of the upper body extremities; the rotary handle is for combating joint stiffness and helping muscle toning; the boheler plate works overall balance using an unstable platform which activates muscular responses; the finger steps introduce flexing of the arms and digital coordination with the fingers; the back stretcher is fairly self explanatory; the rotary handles work the shoulders and elbows; the bench pedals reinforce daily actions such as walking and climbing stairs; and the stair ramp is for maintaining or recovering daily activities which give personal independence.
It was also announced that the next project in the park will be a children’s playground with games, swings and other activities for the little ones to enjoy.
