This year’s winter Tapas Route will be held from November 18 until December 5, 2010, the third time that the event has been staged. For those pubs, restaurants and cafés that might be thinking of doing something a little different to attract trade, this has proved to be a very successful formula for many.

The deadline for submission of application forms to participate in the event is November 5, for those that wish to participate in one of Torrevieja’s most successful innovations; the Tapas Trail/Route or La Ruta de la Tapa.

The Department of Tourism, with the collaboration of other municipal departments such as Culture, Hotel and Trade groups, CDT, as well as The Hospitality Association of Torrevieja and other local companies, have initiated the vent, which has also been successfully copied by other towns in the region and beyond.

La Ruta de la Tapa Torrevieja 2010 is open to all business centres in Torrevieja with bar facilities, with application forms and information available from any of the tourist information offices in the city or one can download it from the website of the Municipality of Torrevieja www.torrevieja.es.

The route will run from Thursday to Sunday, at the scheduled times with the main change from the previous event is that there are only two types of voting that give rise to two different awards: popular prize, awarded for best typical Tapa and another for the best innovative Tapa, resulting from the counting of votes cast by customers plus the Professional vote (prizes for typical and innovative Tapas), which is delivered by a professional jury, to be designated by the CDT of Torrevieja.

There will be prizes given to both the Pubs and also those who cast their votes. The Tapa Trail can be a lot of fun, is great value for money and one can make a night of it, going from Pub to Pub, sampling the different Tapas, casting your vote, enjoying a beverage, which is included in the price, and moving on the next pub.

It’s an excellent way to discover more of Torrevieja’s vibrant pub scene and exceptional value for money. Running over three weekends, it’s well worth the effort to get out and enjoy a Tapa or two in the run up to the festive season, and a great diversion from doing your Christmas shopping! 389 words
