FRED’S PUTT FOR THE POT – AND IT’S A DOUBLE!
Contributor / 2012-08-12 16:55:00
In golf it takes only one good shot to forget all the bad ones – as Levante’s Fred Betteridge will testify.
Approaching the 16th tee at Oliva Nova, 36 handicapper Fred was struggling to total more than 25 points.
But then came a slick, four metre putt for a birdie two and a pot of gold – well, nearly 50 euros! – and the only two on the day.
Not only did Fred pocket all the money in the twos pot yesterday but there were no twos at Levante’s previous meeting, at El Plantio – meaning a roll over which doubled the money.
Fred finished with 28 points, three behind the top trio in Division 2 – Frank Carroll, Roger Miller and Barry Webb, who all had 31 points.
In Division 1, Martin Shaw (‘Mr Consistency’ of 2012) carded 36 points but missed out on first place to Mike Cuerden on the lower handicap rule. Third was Anne Edwards with 33 points.
Levante’s next meeting is a pairs, better ball at El Bosque on August 24.
